Hyderabad lawyer sues Apple for selling a defective iPhone: Report

What do you do when you buy a new device and it turns out to be faulty, and the service centre and store from where you purchased leave you with a faulty device for days? This lawyer decided to take Apple to court.

On 24 March, B S Prasad, a counsel for Telangana State Medical and Health department, had bought a brand new iPhone 6 from Ms Aptronix at Himayatnagar, according to a report in Times of India. The device switched off automatically and on taking it back to Aptronix, they advised to take it to a service centre at Banjara Hills.

Further taking it to the service centre, he was informed that they were unable to identify the problem, but also admitted that the unit is defective. However, he didn't receive a replacement and instead was asked to wait for another 15 days.

When he called Apple's customer care centre on April 9, he was given a reference number and instructed to install iTunes, which also failed. After a fw more steps, he was asked to go to Apple care centre at Moosarambagh.

He soon slapped a notice on Apple, asking for refund or replacement of the device. Besides, he also asked for Rs 1 lakh compensation for the mental trauma and keeping him without a phone facility. However, the service centre soon said that the piece was defective and it required a replacement. The case is adjourned to 8 November.
