Google Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL India launch, price: 8 Things you must know

Google has unveiled the second generation of its Pixel smartphone - Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL - which will be available in India from November 15 priced at Rs 61,000 onwards. Pre-orders will commence on October 26 and will be on sale from November 1 (Pixel 2) and November 15 (Pixel 2 XL) in over 1,000 stores across the country. It will be available online on e-commerce platform, Flipkart. 

The devices, which will compete in the premium segment with devices like Apples iPhone 8 and X as well as Samsungs Note 8, will be available in five other markets including the US, the UK and Australia.

Camera

Unlike competition, Google has opted for single-lens 12.2MP camera, 1.4μm pixel size and f/1.8. It claims to offer improved HDR+, camera is optimized and calibrated to support AR, and unlimited cloud-storage for photos. It comes with portrait mode and uses facial algorithms and depth-mapping image sensor. 

Google said that with Pixel, it has "created the world's best smartphone camera".  "Pixel 2 is loaded with a better camera that not only lets you take great pictures but helps you understand the world around you. Independent camera testers, DXO, has rated the Pixel 2 camera as the best camera of any smartphone, with a record-breaking score of 98, far higher than the score of 89 for last year’s Pixel, which at the time was the highest score as well.

Display
The smaller Pixel 2 has a 5-inch OLED screen with 1920 x 1080 pixels of resolution, and the larger Pixel 2 XL comes  with a 6-inch display with 2880 x 1440 pixels. 

Google Lens

During the launch event, Google also demonstrated Google Lens a new set of visual features that builds on Google's advancements in computer vision and machine learning. Apart from looking up landmarks, books and music albums among others from Google Photos on the Pixel handset, users will also be able to take actions like asking Google Lens to copy URLs and contact information from a picture of a poster or business card. "The company is bringing an early preview of Google Lens to Pixel, so you can try it before anyone else," Google said.

Waterproof
The Pixel 2 phones don't have headphone jacks, but are waterproof. The IP67 waterproof standards will let you submerge it in about 3 feet (1 meter) of water for up to 30 minutes.

OS and processor
Needless to say, it runs Android Oreo. Under the hood, it is powered by Snapdragon 835 and comes coupled with 4GB RAM. 

Battery

It is fuelled by a 2700mAh battery that promises to run up to 7 hours with 15 minutes of charge.

Storage variants and price

In India, the 64GB version of Pixel 2 will be priced at Rs 61,000, while 128GB variant will be available for Rs 70,000. The 64GB version of Pixel 2 XL is priced at Rs 73,000 and the 128GB will be available for Rs 82,000.
