WhatsApp will stop working on these phones

Synopsis

There are some older phone platforms that do not support the kind of capabilities that the app requires to expand features. After pulling the plug on older Android and iOS version, now it adds Blackberry and Symbian platforms. Check out the complete list of devices platforms that are set to lose support.

So, Facebook-owned WhatsApp had earlier decided to end support for a series of ageing software that includes Nokia Symbian and Blackberry 10. Besides, it has also pulled support for older Android versions, as we saw last year. The company had ended support for older Android and iOS version in December last year.

So, if you use WhatsApp to stay connected, then ensure that your device isn't running these old mobile platforms.

Here's the complete list of older software that WhatsApp has listed as ageing and wants to pull support:

Nokia S40

Nokia S60

Blackberry OS

BlackBerry 10

Android 2.2 Froyo

iOS 6

Windows Phone 7

Extension given to select platforms:

However, there are a few extensions such as it will continue to work on BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, and Windows Phone 8.0 until December 31, 2017. On the other hand,  WhatsApp has also extended support for Nokia S40 until December 31, 2018. Similarly, it will continue to work on Android versions 2.3.7 and older until February 1, 2020.

These are ageing software and lack the support that WhatsApp requires to expand features in the future. However, WhatsApp has already sent out updates that will support for extensions. So, in case you own a device running one of these software, then it is recommended upgrading to a newer OS version, or to a newer Android running OS 2.3.3+, iPhone running iOS 7+, or Windows Phone 8+ so that you can continue using WhatsApp.

Meanwhile, if you are looking to export your chat history, check out how you can do so for Android, iPhone, Windows Phone, Nokia S40, Blackberry, Nokia S60 and BlackBerry 10.
