Elon Musk congratulates ISRO for Vikas Engine hot test

Synopsis

ISRO on Wednesday successfully performed the third long-duration hot test of the liquid propellant Vikas Engine for the core L110 liquid stage of the human-rated GSLV MkIII vehicle as part of the engine qualification requirements for the Gaganyaan programme.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk congratulated the Indian Space Research Organisation in the wee hours of Thursday for successfully carrying out the third long-duration hot test of the Vikas Engine for the Gaganyaan Programme.

ISRO had on Wednesday successfully performed the third long-duration hot test of the liquid propellant Vikas Engine for the core L110 liquid stage of the human-rated GSLV MkIII vehicle as part of the engine qualification requirements for the Gaganyaan programme.

The Gaganyaan programme aims to demonstrate human spaceflight to Low Earth Orbit. The programme will also lay the foundation for a sustained Indian human space exploration programme in the long run.

At its propulsion complex in Tamil Nadu's Mahendragiri, ISRO fired the engine for a duration of 240 seconds at the engine test facility. 

ISRO later informed that the performance of the engine met the test objectives, and the engine parameters were "closely matching" the predictions during the entire test duration.

Elon Musk was among the many who congratulated ISRO on the feat.
