No pricking finger? Apple working on sensors to monitor diabetes

Apple has a secret team working on diabetes sensors. These sensors can monitor blood sugar levels.

According to a report by CNBC, Apple is working on sensors that can monitor Diabetes. It has hired a small team that is said to be secretly working on the development. If successful, it would mean, patients can monitor their sugar at all times without the need for pricking.

Citing people familiar with the matter, the report adds that a team of biomedical engineers has been hired. However, it isn't something new, it is said to be envisioned by late Apple founder Steve Jobs.

It is known that Apple Watch was aimed at taking fitness and health monitoring beyond the traditional methods. The report adds that efforts have been going on for the past five years. Citing another person related to the matter,  the report adds that Apple is working on optical sensors shining a light through the skin to measure indications of glucose. 

Now, it isn't just Apple. If you remember, Google's Verily or the ambitious magical healthcare that is likely to miss the target of 2019, or rather may not see the light at all. It includes Google's Smart Lenses that can detect glucose levels in diabetes by analysing tears and a wristband that can detect cancer.

Many companies are trying to blur the line between tech and medicine. However, going by reports, it is difficult to say whether these technologies will see light of the day.
