The hackers can delete your account. However, it won't give away your personal details, but you might lose your WhatsApp account forever and may need a new one to continue using it.
As per reports stated by researchers, it is very easy to lockout one's WhatsApp account. The hacker just needs to enter the wrong two-factor authentication (2FA) codes multiple times.
After doing that, it gets locked for 12 hours, and then the hacker puts a new email-id to the WhatsApp account and support team requesting them to delete the "number due to a lost or stolen account."
As the reports suggest, the WhatsApp support team actually deletes the account. And this might be done by somebody whom you trust and will hand over your phone. Beware of those kinds of people.
