  • The O could stand for 'Oreo'.
  • Some features of Android Oreo revealed.

The next iteration of Android after the Nougat or Android 7 is presumably the Android O. While the guessing game for what could stand for 'O' may no more be fun, a new report has just revealed some cool features it may bring. 9To5Mac, Google's Android SVP Hiroshi Lockheimer has already teased the name Oreo.

A lot of emphasis has been on displaying and accessing notifications. The Android O version could most likely bring some design changes here, yet again. Android 8 or Android N is supposed to merge Andromeda for a smoother experience. What is Andromeda? Reports have been hinting at Google developing a new OS, which will be a mix of Android and Chrome, internally called Andromeda. It could run on laptops too, if reports are top be believed.

Another change could be 'icon badges' for apps that will tell you how many notifications you've received per app. Just like Android TV, Android 8 or Android O could bring the picture-in-picture mode too. Smart text section floating toolbar, restricted background activity from apps, and adaptive icons like Google Pixel are also some of the features one can expect, as per report.

Moreover, the MediaRecorder API is said to come with improvements and a lot of enterprise-related features are also said to be introduced with this variant. This isn't surprising considering how Google is trying to push in the enterprise space.
