A fake Netflix app went viral when it was spread via WhatsApp text messages. The app has been removed from the Google Play store.
With digital improvement every day, a new hacker comes in and tricks millions of lives. As per the Check Point Research reports, a fake Netflix app was doing rounds on WhatsApp for quite some time, targeting Android users to phish out their details.
Google Play store removed the app named FlixOnline. This fake app looked very similar to Netflix, and it promised its users to give 2-months of free subscription. And the message came with a link. Once you click on it, it tricks you into giving your personal and card details.
It was there for 2 months, and hundreds of users fell for this trick, losing all of the credential details. Last month, Google took it down.
The message looked like, "2 Months of Netflix Premium Free at no cost For REASON OF QUARANTINE (CORONA VIRUS)* Get 2 Months of Netflix Premium Free anywhere in the world for 60 days. Get it now HERE https://bit[.]ly/3bDmzUw".
This proves that Google doesn't have proper security when it comes to detecting malware. And, this hasn't been the first time. So, beware before clicking on any link.
