A 27-year-old man was involved in the car theft of a businessman. Evidently, the man was involved with his daughter on Facebook who had encouraged him to steal the car and sell it to meet her expenses. Hailing from Kodambakkam, the woman requested her Facebook acquaintance P Chandru to steal her father's car, said the police.
The accused hails from Kalyanapuram in Vyasarpadi and is a medical representative and this is first involvement in crime, said police. Last week, the businessman Shanmugarjan (47) approached the police complaining of his stolen Mahindra Xylo with a reistration number TN09 BP 1080. The police traced the car to a godown in Vyasarpadi where it was kept for sale by Chandru.
Further investigations proved the involvement of the woman who became friends with the man on Facebook a few months ago. As she was in need of money and her parents had cut her pocket money, she decided to steal and sell her father's car with the help of the man. Speaking to the Deccan Chronicle, police said, "The woman had helped the accused, by giving him a duplicate key of the car and the accused stole it overnight last week."
Fortunately, the car was secured before it could be sold off. Meanwhile, the accused was produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.
