In a horrific scene in Cuddalore, a woman seeking a divorce was attacked with a sickle by her husband in open court. The victim and another woman was injured in the attack, but are reported to be stable.
According to media reports, Nadhiya, a woman from Erumbur village, near Sethiathoppu, Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu had been married to one Pandian for five years. However, the marriage seems to have fallen apart. Sources said that Nadhiya had been living with a certain Subash in recent times.
Apparently unable to bear the break-up, Pandian has been repeatedly submitting petitions to the Cuddalore District Collector, requesting for help to recover his relationship. But such requests were in vain, especially after Nadhiya demanded a divorce from him.
As part of the routine proceedings, Nadhiya, along with the Subash’s family, came to court for a hearing. Right in the premises of the court, she was assaulted with a sickle by Pandian. When Subash’s mother came to her rescue, she was also injured in the brutal attack. What makes the attack especially horrific is the fact that Nadhiya is currently five months pregnant.
Civilians in the court premises managed to catch Pandian before he fled and handed him over to the police.
