TN youth rescues 8 friends from drowning, dies after getting stuck in the mud
Synopsis
21-year old Madhan was an expert swimmer and saved his 8 friends from drowning. He was a student of a private college in Tamil Nadu. He had gone with his friends to celebrate the 19th birthday of his brother.
There was no reason why 21-year-old P Madhan would have drowned, given the expert swimmer he was. But, still he did. Before that, he did not hesitate to save all his 8 friends who were also drowning after their coracle capsized due to overloading. Madhan and eight of his friends had gone to the Koonandiyur near Mecheri to celebrate his counsin's birthday. After consuming liquor, all of them went on a joy ride in Mettur when the boat capsized.
All of them fell into the river. Madhan rescued his friends, but his leg got stuck in the mud and he drowned. His body was recovered and sent to the Mettur Government hospital for postmortem. The police has registered a case and is looking for the oarsman.
Madhan belonged to Sukkampatty in Salem district. He was doing his postgraduation at a private arts and science college near Tiruchengode in Namakkal district.
