TN Taxpayers' money used for meetings with Sasikala; Complaint lodged against MPs and MLAs

Synopsis

Opposition parties in Tamil Nadu already joke that the state is being ruled from prison. The MPs and MLAs are reported to be meeting Sasikala in jail to discuss about the disagreements within their party. Social activists say that Tamil Nadu ministers spend lakhs of money on these trips.

A complaint has been lodged against the MPs and MLAs for spending the people’s TAX money on trips to Bengaluru to meet Sasikala.

Sasikala is now serving a sentence in the Parappana Agrahara prison, Bengaluru, following her conviction in the disproportionate assets case. On February 14th, the Supreme Court confirmed the verdict of D'Cunha on the same.

Following which, the MPs and MLAs are reported to be meeting Sasikala to discuss about the disagreements within their party. The opposition party, DMK, is already criticising the present government for running the state from jail. According to the Salaries and Allowances of Officers of Parliament Act, 1953, the Deputy speaker could make use of the travel allowances only to visit Delhi, his hometown and for work-related trips.

It was condemned by social activists, who have stated that Tamil Nadu Ministers and MLAs are spending lakhs of money, on the trips from Chennai to Bengaluru to meet Sasikala in prison.
