Central govt drops Thanjavur from proposed site list for AIIMS in Tamil Nadu

Synopsis

TN state government has reportedly suggested a few places for the new AIIMS building. However, the central government has dropped Thanjavur from the list. The central government sites lack of facilities in the area.

Given the lack of facilities at the site in Thanjavur, proposed by the state government for the new AIIMS hospital, the central government has reportedly dropped it from the list of five suggestions sent by Tamil Nadu.

When former Higher Education minister of Tamil Nadu, K. Ponmudy, raised the issue in the Assembly, Chief Minister Palanisamy said that he was eager about the site, but the central government dropped its name from the list of places suggested by the state government. The list included Tanjore’s Sengipatti, Erode, Chengalpattu, Madurai and Pudhukotai.
