World No. 1 Australia face first-ever whitewash in ODIs

South Africa defeated Australia by 31 runs in the fifth ODI at Cape Town. It was Australia's first 0-5 loss in the ODIs. Australia lost despite of Warner's century during their chase of 328.

It was the first-ever time when Steven Smith and Co. lost all the matches in a five-ODI series.

Zimbabwe tops the table of the most number of whitewashes in a series comprising of five games with eight 0-5 losses. Leaving Afghanistan who have not played a lot of 50-over format, every other team in the top 10 of the ICC ODIs team rankings now have faced at least one clean-sweep in a five-match series.

Despite David Warner's century in the fifth ODI, the Australians fell short of 31 runs during their chase of 328. Warner was the only batsman in the visitors' camp to have performed consistently in the series.

He was the overall top-scorer with 386 runs at a superb average of 77.20. He notched up two tons and a half-century. However, what hurt Australia most is their inexperienced bowling unit.

The margins of defeat - by six wickets with 82 deliveries remaining, 142 runs, four wickets, six wickets with 87 deliveries remaining and 31 runs showed that the reigning champions, who are without their senior bowlers like Mitchell Starc and James Faulkner, came out with one of their poorest bowling display.
