Swiss tennis great Roger Federer has barely played tennis in the past 14 months, making just a couple of competitive appearances. He underwent two major knee surgeries and was focused on recovering besides continuing to train.
The comeback
Federer made his professional comeback this month during the ATP 250 event in Doha, where he was ousted in the pre-quarters. Since then, he has gone back to training again and intends on being back before the grass season.
What's next?
Federer is to take a break from the upcoming clay season and intends to skip the French Open. Meanwhile, he has made his plans clear on what he plans to do upon making his full-time return during the grass season, as he eyes his record ninth Wimbledon title.

The plans
“I want to win big tournaments and beat the best players in the world. I’m not coming back to play second rounds in the middle of nowhere. I feel like I know what I have to do to get there. It’s part dream and part logic, it’s a logical dream,” he was quoted as saying to Numero Magazine.
“I’m working very hard even though I don’t talk about it much. I hope people understand how hard I work; otherwise, I wouldn’t have made it this far. I’ve never stopped playing for as long as I did after the double knee operation in 2020. Inactivity is difficult,” he added.
Federer also revealed that the prolonged injury break helped him spend a great time with his family. “I enjoyed spending this intensive downtime with my family. But, I looked worriedly at the development of the global infection numbers, missed the contact with my parents and friends, and observed with deep concern that people drifted into poverty or lost friends and family to the disease,” he told Tennis World USA.
