WATCH: Narendra Modi hails Tokyo Paralympians' achievements as morale-boosting for Indian sports community

Synopsis

India came up with a gracious performance at the Tokyo Paralympics, winning 19 medals. On the same note, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the achievements as morale-boosting.

India displayed its prowess at the Tokyo Paralympics, winning record 19 medals, including five golds. Following the performance, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the performance of the entire contingent.

Modi had hosted the entire contingent at his residence in Delhi a few days. On Sunday, a video of the same was released on his Twitter handle, acclaiming the achievements of the Paralympians and admitted that they were morale boosters for the country's sporting community.

"I am motivated by you all. Your achievements are sure to boost the morale of our country's sporting community. The performance would also spread sporting awareness in the country and help it grow wider," he said in the video.

Further, inspiring the Paralympians, Modi stated that a true sportsperson is not supposed to be bigged down by victories or defeats but keep moving ahead. He hailed them as ambassadors of the country, besides increasing its prestige on the world stage, courtesy of their exceptional execution.

Following the interaction with Modi, the athletes praised the inspiring nature of Modi and admitted that they were highly honoured to have shared the same stage with the Indian PM. They also thanked them for their eternal guidance, inspiration and motivation.

Some also reckoned that the athletes of other countries were surprised to know that PM Modi had held talks with the athletes over the phone following their medal-winning performances. Some of the para-athletes also gifted their sporting equipment with which they had won the medals, with their autograph on it, to him, while the PM announced that the equipment would be auctioned.
