RCB Skipper Virat Kohli in a match against Kolkata Night Riders passed an open comment against the legality of the West Indian spinner Sunil Narine’s bowling action. “Batta maar raha hai,” said the captain of the RCB to Anil Chaudhary the umpire on field accusing him of “Chucking” the ball. The match closed with KKR winning by 6 wickets.
Virat is known for his heated comments and remarks on the field yet open remarks like these by co-players which question the BCCI prohibits the legality of the bowler. However, his bowling action was not questioned by any of the on-field umpires.
Yet Sunil Narine has been under severe critique about his bowling action in the past. He was first reported for an illegal bowling action during the 2014 champions league in India. Which caused the Cricket West Indies (CWI) selection board to drop him from the Team for a while in 2015.
He has then reported again in November of 2016 in a match against Sri Lanka for illegality in bowling action as he had crossed the 15-degree threshold mark which is an international standard for bowlers, and again in March of 2018 at the Pakistan Super League where he plays for the Lahore Qalandars.
There have been no official statements passed by the BCCI about the issue yet.
