Tokyo Olympics: Simone Biles pulls out of vault and uneven bars finals

Synopsis

American gymnast Simone Biles has been struggling with the mental health of late as she has decided to pull out of the vault and uneven bars finals of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In what comes as yet another setback for the United States of America in the Tokyo Olympics 2020, gymnast Simone Biles has withdrawn from further events. She would now not be participating in the finals of the vault and uneven bars.

The 24-year-old has been struggling with mental health issues ever since arriving at the Games. While she was a favourite to win five golds, she initially withdrew from the women's team, besides skipping her all-around title defence. She was scheduled to compete in the finals of four individual events but pulled out of a couple on Saturday.

"After further consultation with medical staff, Simone Biles has decided to withdraw from the event finals for vault and the uneven bars. She will continue to be evaluated daily to determine whether to compete in the finals for floor exercise and balance beam," said the USAG in a statement.

Meanwhile, the federation has added that MyKayla Skinner and  Jade Carey would compete in the finals. Also, Biles hit out at critics, stating, "For anyone saying I quit, I didn't quit. My mind and body are simply not in sync, as you can see here."

She posted a video on Instagram, which saw her landing on her back while training and facing problems with the same in every event. According to her, she is suffering from "twisties", a type of mental blockade that is restricting her from competing at the events.
