The Olympic Games 2020 is all set to run between July 23 and August 8 in Tokyo. More than 120 Indian athletes are expected to represent India. Meanwhile, female tennis star Sania Mirza would be doing so as she eyes a historic outing during the Games.

With less than a month to go for the Tokyo Olympics, the Indians patiently await another prolific outing for the Indian contingent. While the entire team is likely to possess more than 120 athletes, one of the top athletes to represent the nation would be the female tennis star, Sania Mirza.

Sania would create history by becoming the first Indian female to feature in four Olympic Games. Aged 34, while this is likely to be her final Olympics outing, she is looking to make it count to the fullest and finish on a historical note.

“I have had an amazing career. It’s just about believing in yourself and believing in your abilities. I am in my 30s and I’m still here! I don’t really think too much about it. I take it day by day; I don’t really think too far into the future,” she told Olympics.com.

Sania finished fourth during the 2016 Rio Olympics in the mixed-doubles along with Rohan Bopanna. Recalling the same, she said, “It was one of the most devastating moments of my life to come that close to winning a medal and not win it. Having said that, I am really looking forward to it. I love representing India, everywhere I play, but especially playing for the country at the Olympics is a matter and pride for all the athletes. I was told if I do play in Tokyo, I will have competed in the most number of Olympics by any woman, teaming up with someone else. I am ever so grateful for being here and look forward to my next Olympics.”

It would be Sania’s first Olympics since becoming a mother in 2018 to her son Izhaan, joining the likes of ‘Supermom’ Serena Williams. “I have got really good support around me in my parents, sister; it’s all worked out very well. Izhaan is a very loving, caring boy; he understands when I say I am going to practice and stuff. He comes with me as well,” she concluded.
