The Tokyo Olympics is all set to be held between July 23 and August 8. Meanwhile, amidst the fear of the COVID-19 pandemic, a setback has already struck the Games. Two COVID cases have been discovered in the Uganda team.

In what comes as yet another setback for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, a second COVID positive case has been discovered in the Uganda camp. Reportedly, a coach in the Uganda camp happens to be the one, while the news comes days after an athlete had tested positive on arrival in Tokyo.

According to AFP, Japanese national broadcaster NHK has reported the second COVID case in the Uganda camp. However, the news hasn't been confirmed yet by the local officials. Meanwhile, the coach has been put in isolation.

While the contingent arrived in Tokyo on Saturday, eight members, along with a coordinator, were allowed to train until this time but were asked to stay in their hotel. Meanwhile, following the coach's COVID detection, the entire team has been put in isolation until July 3, as the whole team is being considered to have had close contacts with the coach.

In the meantime, an official from the Izumisano city stated that while a person from the Uganda team had tested positive, it is unclear whether he was a coordinator or a team member. "The results of PCR tests that were done using samples taken on June 22 showed one person tested positive. Those nine people who have been identified as having had close contacts... have been isolated in individual rooms in order to avoid contact with others," he said.
