Recently, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced his decision to facilitate the silver medalist, besides announcing a ₹2 crore reward for her. Also, she would be promoted in her job at the Northeast Frontier Railway, where she currently works as an Officer on Special Duty (Sports).

In the meantime, Chanu has a chance of converting the colour of her medal to silver provided gold medalist Zhihui Hou of China fails her dope test. In contrast, it is the second medal in the class after Karnam Malleswari won the bronze during the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
