Bermuda, the smallest nation in the world, wins its first gold medal at Tokyo Olympics

Taking part in her third Olympic Games, Flora Duffy won the gold medal with a time of 1:55:36. That was one minute ahead of the silver medalist Georgia Taylor Brown of Great Britain.

Bermuda on Tuesday won its first gold medal ever in Olympics history.

Commonwealth Games gold medalist and Bermuda athlete Flora Duffy won gold in the women's triathlon event. 

Taking part in her third Olympic Games, Duffy won the gold medal with a time of 1:55:36. That was one minute ahead of the silver medalist Georgia Taylor Brown of Great Britain. US athlete Katie Zaferes grabbed the bronze medal.

Thirty-three-year-old Duffy is one of just two athletes representing Bermuda at the Tokyo Olympics.

Triathlon, as the name suggests, has three segments. This includes swimming for 1.5 Km first, then cycling for 40 km and then running for 10 km. Of all the three combined, the one who takes the best time wins.

Bermuda Premier David Burt congratulated Duffy on her spectacular win.
