Tokyo Olympics: Kamalpreet Kaur finishes sixth in women's discus throw finals

India's stint in women's discus throw came to its best end, as Kamalpreet Kaur finished sixth in the finals. Valarie Allman of the United States of America claimed the gold.

It was a spirited performance from Kamalpreet Kaur in the women's discus throw at the Tokyo Olympics. On Monday, the finals were held, where she finished sixth in the final round, giving India its best-ever finish in the verticle.

She started well in the semis, firing over 61 metres in the opening attempt, only to miss out in the second attempt. A short rain break followed it as the throwers struggled to stand and slipped persistently.

Meanwhile, following the restart, Kamalpreet bettered it with over 63m and entered the top-six in the third attempt. As the top-eight qualifiers went into the final, she failed miserably, drawing fouls on every three tries, but managed to finish sixth.

Valarie Allman of the United States of America clinched the gold with 68.98m. As for the silver, Germany's Kristin Pudenz claimed it with 66.86m, while Yaime Perez of Cuba bagged the bronze with 65.72m.
