Tokyo Olympics: India fails to make it to finals of 4x400m relay despite breaking Asian record

India performed brilliantly in the 4x400m relay event at the Tokyo Olympics by breaking the Asian record. However, it has still failed to qualify for the finals.

In what must come as both a proud and heartbreaking moment, India failed to qualify for the finals of the 4x400m relay at the Tokyo Olympics on Friday. However, it should be proud of itself for having broken the Asian record.

The team of Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Tom Noah Nirmal, Rajiv Arokia and Amoj Jacob clocked 3:00:25 to break the Asian record. Previously, the record was held by Qatar after it had clocked 3:00.56 and won the gold during the Asian Games in 2018.

However, the Indians could only finish fourth in the heat, thus failing to book their place in the finals, as only the top three make it. Overall, they were placed ninth in the heats, while apart from the top three in both heats, the following two best-placed sides also qualify, as India, unfortunately, was not among the two. Also, it brought India's track and field event commitments to an end at the Games.
