The Indian archers continued to disappoint even in the shoot-offs of the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Tarundeep Rai was ousted in Round 2 of the same by Israel's Itay Shanny on Wednesday.
It was relatively a problematic condition at the Yumenoshima Park, as it was pretty windy. While both were locked at 5-5, Shanny managed to edge past Rai 10-9. Furthermore, the Israeli shot three tens in his final four arrows to seal his pre-quarters berth.
Although Rai needed a tie in the fifth set, he shot 9-8-9, while Shanny fired a couple of tens and a nine to outshine him. The Indian was barely able to fire any ten in the opening set, as the wind troubled him, while he even fired a seven in it before bouncing back in the second.

Shanny failed to fire a ten in the following few sets, as a series of nine allowed Rai to take a 5-3 lead. However, the Indian failed to tie things up in the final set.
As for Rai, it was his final Olympics outing. Moreover, it was his second consecutive Round 2 exit in the same. In Round 1, he had tamed Ukraine's Oleksii Hunbin 6-4, as he had bounced back in style following a 0-2 and 2-4 deficiency, firing three perfect 10s.
