India had a mixed start to the Tokyo Olympics 2020 athletics events on Friday. 

Avinash Sable clocked a new national record of 8.18.12 in the 3000m steeplechase race. but could not overcome the dominance of Kenyan and Ethiopian athletes.

Despite setting the national record, Avinash had to drop out of the qualification by staying at number 7 in his heat.

3000m steeplechase star Avinash Sable bettered his earlier national record by clocking 8:18.12 in heat 2 to finish seventh. ⚡👏

Despite a gritty performance, he missed out on a place in the final by a whisker.
