India's medal hope Sushil Kumar may move court for Olympics berth

Synopsis

Double Olympics medallist Sushil Kumar has asked the Wrestling Federation of India to hold a fair trial to decide who should represent the country in the 74 kg category at the upcoming Rio Games.

The wrestler is also considering moving Delhi high court  in connection with the matter.

“It is one of the options but we hope the matter is resolved before this,” Sushil was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

The raging debate in Indian wrestling involves Sushil, India's most successful Olympian wrestler, and Narsingh Yadav, who bagged the quota place for India at the 2015 World Championships in Las Vegas after winning the bronze medal in 74kg category.

Sushil, who missed that event due to a shoulder injury, has now appealed to WFI on social media asking for a fair trial to be conducted between Narsingh and him to decide who the best contender for India is.

Sushil has won all his medals in the 66 kg category, but moved to the 74 kg category after new weight divisions were introduced in 2013.
