Nannes, who is in India on a television assignment with IPL, took to Twitter to express shock over the 'royal' treatment being dished out to Azharuddin, who was implicated in an expansive match-fixing scandal in 1999 and subsequently banned from all cricket activities by BCCI.

Why is a confessed match fixer welcomed on a cricket show and treated like royalty? How is that even possible?

Nannes' tweet triggered massive outrage on the social media platform, with several Indian fans jumping to Azhar's defence. Nannes responded with cold logic.

.@ashwin91 The ban itself was declared illegal, he was never found not guilty! NEVER cleared. He confessed - FACT: https://t.co/JShsusqhhc

Azharuddin’s biopic, co-produced by Balaji Motion Pictures with Emran Hashmi playing the lead role, was released this Friday. In 2012, a Divisional Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court dismissed the ban imposed on Azhar.

Nannes also tweeted a link out to the exhaustive CBI report that contains evidence of the involvment of certain prominent cricketers in match fixing.
