Ronaldo puts Portugal in Euro 2016 final

Synopsis

Cristiano Ronaldo lead Portugal into the final of the European Championships 2016 following a 2-0 win over Wales in the semifinal on Wednesday.

The Real Madrid star put Portugal ahead in the 50th minute through a stunning header, jumping high above the Welsh defence to pump the ball into the roof of the net, off a Raphael Guerreiro cross.

This was Ronaldo's ninth Euro goal and it tied him with Frenchman Michel Platini's record.

Three minutes later, Nani stretched to connect to Ronaldo's pluperfect delivery from about 25 meters and made it 2-0 in Portugal's favour.

In their only previous Euro final, in 2004, Portugal lost to Greece.

In this year's final, Ronaldo's side will meet the winner of the second semifinal between hosts France and world champions Germany.
