Opener Lokesh Rahul slammed a century on ODI debut and seamer Jasprit Bumrah snared four as India hammered Zimbabwe by nine wickets to win the first of match matches at Harare Sports Club, here on Saturday.
Set a modest 169 to win, Rahul (100) and Ambati Rayudu (62 not out) forged a 162-run partnership for the second wicket, as India coasted home with 45 balls to spare.
Rahul reached his century with a six off seamer Hamilton Masakadza. He became the first Indian and 11th overall to complete a ton on ODI debut.
In the course of his innings, Rayudu, in his 31st ODI, crossed 1000 career runs.
Bumrah (4/28) had earlier wrecked the hosts with the accurate swing bowling after MS Dhoni elected to field. Dhawal Kulkarni and Barinder Sran picked up two apiece, while the spinners, Axar Patel (1/26) and Yuzvendra Chahal (1/27), were also economical.
Former skipper Elton Chigumbura (41) was the top scorer for Zimbabwe, while Sikander Raza (23) and Craig Ervine (21) failed to get moving after decent starts.
The second ODI is scheduled for Monday.
