During the closing ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics on Sunday, people across the globe got a glimpse witnessed a short teaser of the Paris Games, which are scheduled to take place in 2024. The Olympic flame was extinguished in the cauldron, and the flag was passed to Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo for the next Games. 

Thousands gathered around Eiffel Tower to watch the closing ceremony and celebrate being the French capital's status as host of the next Games. The focus shifted to Paris, where jets from the Patrouille de France (Patrol of France) released blue, white and red smoke — forming the French flag in the sky.

For the first time, the closing ceremony featured live celebrations from the next host city as the people of Paris and France embraced their role as hosts of the 2024 Olympics. Paris will get its chance to officially kick off the next Summer Olympics in 1,083 days with the Opening Ceremony on July 26, 2024.
