ONE Championship: Ritu Phogat eyes Angela Lee and her World Championship title

Synopsis

Ritu Phogat is having a great stint as an MMA artist in the ONE Championship. She aims at winning the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix and face Angela Lee for the World Championship.

India wrestler turned mixed martial artist Ritu Phogat is having an incredible stint at the ONE Championship. She is currently 6-1 in her MMA career and is taking part in the ongoing ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix.

She beat second-ranked Men Bo of China in the opening round and booked her place in the semis. However, she has already set her eyes on the bigger prize, as she aims to win the tournament and take on Angela Lee for the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Championship.

“I am so motivated to win this tournament for the honour of my family and my country. There are a lot of talented women participating, and the fight against Meng Bo was indeed tough. But, together with my team at Evolve MMA, my coaches, we’re going to push through to the next round, reach the finals, and win the Grand Prix. My ultimate goal is to join my countryman Arjan Bhullar and become the first female mixed martial arts world champion in India,” she told ONE.

However, she is not focusing too far ahead and aims to overcome one battle at a time. Currently, she is preparing to take on Japan’s Itsuki Hirata in the semis, while she could also face Seo Hee Ham of South Korea or Stamp Fairtex of Thailand in the final.

“All the girls in this tournament are super-talented. It’s hard to underestimate any of them. So, I have to be on top of my game. I have no doubt I will eventually challenge Angela for the belt. I won’t stop until I reach the pinnacle of this sport,” she concluded.
