MI vs KKR, IPL 2025 highlights: Ashwani, Rickelton shine as MI won by 8 wickets

Ajinkya Rahane: Collective batting failure. It was a good wicket bat on as I mentioned in the toss. 180-190 would have been good on this wicket. It has a very good bounce. Sometimes you have to use the pace and bounce. We got to learn really fast from this game. Couldn't much with the ball. They tried their best. But not much runs on the board. We kept on losing wickets. Four wickets in the powerplay. It was difficult to consolidate and get that total on the board. You need that partnership going. You need one batsman to stay till the end.

Suryakumar Yadav smashed a six on the final ball of the 13th over to take the team over the finishing line in Mumbai Indians' 117-run chase. Ryan Rickelton led the MI's chase with a brilliant unbeaten innings of 62 off 41 balls, while Suryakumar chipped in with a quickfire knock of 27 off 9 balls. With this, Mumbai Indians opened their account after two consecutive defeats of the season.

SIX! Ryan Rickelton moves away early, so Narine follows him but bowls a short ball. It's a real half-tracker, and Rickelton smashes it over midwicket.That's maiden IPL fifty for South African opener. MI need 28 off 60 balls to win.

WICKET! Andre Russell bowled a short ball outside off. Rohit Sharma (12) tried to hit it flat but mistimed it, causing the ball to pop up. Rana ran to his right from mid-off and took the catch near the edge of the circle. MI need 62 runs off 84 balls to win.

The openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton gave a solid start to the Mumbai Indians' 117-run chase. The pair took on Kolkata Knight Riders' bowling attack, with Rohit getting off the chase with two sixes off Harshit Rana in the 2nd over. MI need 75 off 96 balls to win.

SIX! Harshit Rana bowled a gentle full toss outside off, and Rohit Sharma hit it over long-off. MI need 102 runs off 108 balls to win.

Mumbai Indians will need only 117 runs to win after their bowling attack led by Ashwani Kumar bundled out Kolkata Knight Riders for 116 in 16.2 overs. Ashwani registered figures of 4/24 in four overs. Deepak Chahar picked two wickets, while Hardik Pandya, Vignesh Puthur, Mitchell Santner, and Trent Boult took a scalp each.

Despite batting line-up being rattled by Mumbai Indians bowlers, Kolkata Knight Riders have managed to get past 100-run in the 15th over.

WICKET! Harshit Rana (4) tried to play a slog sweep against Vignesh Puthur's spin delivery but hit it flat. Dhir ran in, dived, and took a good catch.

WICKET! Ashwani Kumar is unstoppable as he has picked four wickets on his IPL debut. Ashwani Kumar bowled a length ball that bounced more than expected and hit the top of off stump as Russell  (5) attempted a cross-bat shot.

WICKET! Two wickets in an over for Ashwani Kumar. Ashwani bowls a back-of-a-length delivery with a scrambled seam on leg-stump. Manish Pandey (19) stays in his crease while trying to defend but leaves a gap between his bat and pad. The ball sneaks through and knocks over the top of the leg-stump.

Ramandeep Singh joined Andre Russell at the crease.

WICKET! Rinku Singh (17) steps forward to hit a big shot, but Ashwani Kumar shortens the length, making the ball rise outside off stump. Rinku tries to hit it but ends up slicing it towards the off-side. Naman Dhir moves to his right in the deep and takes the catch.

Andre Russell joined Manish Pandey at the crease.

Score: KKR - 74/6 in 10.3 overs.

WICKET! Hardik Pandya bowled a short delivery outside off. Angkrish Raghuvanshi (26) tried to pull it but mistimed his shot towards deep mid-wicket. Naman Dhir moved to his left and took an easy catch.

Manish Pandey joined Rinku Singh at the crease.

WICKET! Deepak bowls a well-directed bouncer outside off, moving in with good pace. Venkatesh Iyer (3) leans back and tries to ramp it over the keeper, but the ball is too close for that shot. Instead, he ends up guiding it straight to Rickelton, who takes an easy catch.

Rinku Singh joined Angkrish Ranghuvanshi at the crease.

WICKET! Ashwani bowls a full-length delivery wide outside off, tempting Rahane (11) to go for a big shot. Rahane swings his bat, and the ball flies toward deep backward point. Tilak tries to catch it but fumbles on the first attempt. However, he reacts quickly, keeps his eyes on the ball, and grabs it with his right hand on the second try.

Venkatesh Iyer joined Angkrish Raghuvanshi at the crease.

WICKET! Quinton de Kock (1) steps forward, and Chahar bowls a length ball outside off stump, away from his reach. De Kock stretches to hit it on the rise with power, but Ashwani Kumar at mid-off jumps and takes a clean reverse cup catch. He was positioned at the edge of the circle and timed his leap perfectly. 

Angkrish Raghuvanshi joined Ajinkya Rahane at the crease.

WICKET! An early fall of wicket for Kolkata Knight Riders as Sunil Narine (0) was removed by Trent Boult. Boult steams in and bowls a 136.2kph pitched up ball on middle and generates a good amount of away swing, Narine once again exposes his stumps as moves leg-side in the process to play an expansive shot but his bat is nowhere near the ball as he swings aimlessly at it.

Eoin Morgan and Nick Knight: We have an absolute belter here. We have a beautiful covering of grass and underneath it's really hard, it means it's a batter's paradise. I'm looking forward to the spin twins, Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine. The better bowlers always find a way to defend on these kind of surfaces.

But, the faster and faster you bowl, the farther you will travel. You are playing dead-centre of the ground and you have options to play with. The shortest boundary is 54m, it gets longer as you move across the ground. A bouncer is a good option to surprise batters and to not allow them to line you up, 

Jasprit Bumrah, recovering from a back injury, was seen bowling at the NCA, raising hopes for his return in the IPL 2025.

Hardik Pandya: We gonna bowl first, looks like a good track. Knowing Wankhede, dew may or may not come in. There might be some early swing, it plays well so we thought chasing is a good option. We want to get into good rhythm and kickstart. Overall, we want to play better cricket, we need to stay calm. Will Jacks comes back and we have a debutant - Ashwani Kumar.

Ajinkya Rahane: We wanted to bowl first as well but I was confused looking at the wicket, generally Wankede is a good batting surface so I feel it's a good toss to lose. There's a little breeze going on, no dew factor to deal with. We will look to post a good total on the board and I have confidence in our bowlers to defend. We are playing good cricket, every games gives a good opportunity to play good cricket. Lovely ground, we are looking to play good cricket. Sunil comes in in place of Mooen.
