Manpreet, Asian champion may miss World Championships after failing dope test

Synopsis

Manpreet Kaur, woman short putter of India had won a gold medal has failed a doping test. The test conducted by National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) on June 1-4 has revealed the usage of dimethylbutylamine. India might lose the medal if her urine sample ‘B’ test turns positive.  

Manpreet Kaur, a woman short putter of India had won a gold medal in the recently concluded prestigious Asian Athletics Championship. The athlete is now facing a cloud for using banned substance dimethylbutylamine.

The test conducted by National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) on June 1-4 has given result of the report as positive. The substance named dimethylbutylamine is directly related to methylhexanamine, a type of substance which was used during 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games by several sportspersons.

Even after the test, Kaur has not been put under provisional suspension. The reason is, under the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), dimethylbutylamine is a specified substance. But still India might lose the medal if her urine sample ‘B’ test turns positive.

"Manpreet has tested positive in a test conducted during the Federation Cup in June. Her urine sample has been found to have stimulant dimethylbutylamine," an Athletics Federation of India official told PTI.

Adding to the consequences, Kaur might not be allowed to play in the mega-event World Championships if she is proven wrong for using substance. Apart from finding guilty for the doping violation, she will also be banned for four years.
