Karnataka kid wins gold medal for India in U-8 Commonwealth

Synopsis

An eight-year-old Mandya girl Shefali A N won a gold medal in Under-8 at the Commonwealth Chess Championship. She had also won a silver medal in U-7 at the Asian School Championships in Singapore in 2015. She dedicates 5-6 hours daily on her laptop to pratice chess.

An eight-year-old Mandya girl Shefali A N won a gold medal in Under-8 at the Commonwealth Chess Championship in New Delhi on Monday.

This is her second consecutive medal in Under-8 category. Before this she has won the gold medal in the 2016 Commonwealth U-8 at Kalutara in Sri Lanka.

A report from Times of India, said that Shefali notched six wins and lost only once.She earned six points totally out of the seven rounds that she played.

I'm happy I could win another gold medal for India. My hard work has paid off. It's a great honour and I want to keep winning," said Shefali to TOI.

It’s not only in the U-8 category that Shefali has won a medal. She won a silver medal in U-7 at the Asian School Championships in Singapore in 2015.

Shefali began to play chess after watching her brother play. She dedicates 5-6 hours daily on her laptop to pratice chess.

A class 4 student is also one among the toppers at Santhome Public School in Mandya.
