Marathi Vultures emerged as the inaugural champions of the Global Indian Pravasi Kabaddi League (GI-PKL) 2025 men's competition after defeating Tamil Lions 40-30 in a thrilling final held at Gurugram University on Wednesday.
The Vultures held their nerves in a high-intensity clash, clinching the title with a 10-point margin thanks to standout performances from Sunil, Vishal, and Rahul. Sunil led the charge with 11 total points, while Vishal added 9, and Rahul made his mark in defence with 6 vital tackle points.
Tamil Lions, who stormed into the final after a dominant 50-27 victory over Bhojpuri Leopards in the semi-finals, fought hard but couldn’t match the Vultures’ balance and composure. Aditya top-scored for the Lions with 10 raid points, supported by Parveen (5 points) and Yash (4 tackle points), but their efforts fell short against the clinical gameplay of the champions.
Marathi Vultures had earlier booked their spot in the final by narrowly edging out Punjabi Tigers 38-36 in a nail-biting semi-final clash. Despite four super tackles from the Tigers, the Vultures’ resilience under pressure secured their path to the summit clash.
The grand finale saw moments of brilliance from both sides, but it was the Vultures who capitalised on crucial opportunities, executing timely raids and solid tackles to take home the GI-PKL trophy.
Meanwhile, Tamil Lioness defeated Telugu Cheetahs 31-19 to win the inaugural Global Indian Pravasi Kabaddi League (GI-PKL) women's title.
