
The Tamil Lioness were crowned champions of the inaugural Global Indian Pravasi Kabaddi League (GI-PKL) women's competition after a commanding 31-19 win over Telugu Cheetahs in the final held at Gurugram University on Wednesday.
With this emphatic 14-point victory, the Lioness etched their name in history as the first-ever women's champions of the GI-PKL.
In a gripping finale, the Tamil Lioness outplayed Telugu Cheetahs in all departments. The Lioness scored 31 points, comprising 13 raid points, 14 tackle points, and 4 all-out points. Telugu Cheetahs, despite a valiant effort, could only manage 19 points (7 raid, 10 tackle, 2 extras).
Standout performers for Tamil Lioness included Rachana Vilas, who notched up 8 raid points, while Thannu contributed 5 all-rounder points. On the defensive front, Priyanka and Navneet combined to deliver a rock-solid performance, registering 7 and 5 tackle points respectively.
For the Telugu Cheetahs, captain Nikita Soni stood out with 6 tackle points, while Ritu and Anju Chahal chipped in with 4 raid points and 2 tackle points respectively.
Tamil Lioness Crush Bhojpuri Leopardess
The Tamil Lioness stormed into the final after overpowering Bhojpuri Leopardess 43-21 in the first semifinal. Displaying all-round dominance, the Lioness amassed 26 raid points and 10 tackle points, while also securing 4 all-out points and forcing 3 super tackles. Bhojpuri Leopardess struggled throughout, managing only 18 raid points and 2 tackle points.
Telugu Cheetahs Outclass Punjabi Tigress
In the second semifinal, Telugu Cheetahs delivered a clinical performance to defeat Punjabi Tigress 25-16. While both teams were evenly matched in raid points (11 each), the Cheetahs’ defense made the difference with 10 tackle points and 4 all-out points. Punjabi Tigress failed to record any super tackle or all-out points, allowing Telugu Cheetahs to secure a comfortable win.
