Roger Federer made a successful return from knee surgery, beating Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-3, 6-4 in the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters on Tuesday.
“I was very excited and tense. It was a perfect match, because it was close in the beginning and then I could go on a roll. I could go freely. I was very pleased how I felt, how I played,”Federer said after the win.
Federer had last played top-ranked Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open semifinals in January and underwent arthroscopic surgery on February 3 for a torn cartilage in his left knee.
