BCCI cannot escape Lodha reforms: SC dismisses their review petition

The BCCI review on SC's order, which was passed on July 18, has been dismissed. BCCI has been refusing to implement Lodha reforms. SC appointed the Lodha Committee to bring in in transparency and accountability in the BCCI.

BCCI and its senior lawyer, Kapil Sibal, faced a setback when their review on order passed on July 18 was dismissed.

A bench comprising Chief Justice TS Thakur, AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud three months back accepted most of the Lodha reforms and had asked the controversies-ridden board to implement them.

In awake to bring in transparency and accountability on the board, the Lodha Committee recommended numerous changes which were not plainly rejected by Anurag Thakur and Co.

The reforms that BCCI have been against implementing are one vote per state, one person-one post, no government official in office, age cap for office-bearers, and the cooling-off period.

The apex court was supposed to pass the final verdict on October 7 but then postponed it to October 17 due to Dussehra holidays. However, the BCCI sought a day's extension for convincing the state associations for applying the Lodha reforms.
