While it is a known fact that Indian cricket fans are a passionate lot, what happened at Guwahati after India lost to Australia is plain shameful.

The latter’s team bus was attacked with a rock on their way to the hotel from the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, shattering one of the windows.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night after Australia defeated India by eight wickets in the second Twenty20 International (T20I).

Players and staff were travelling from Busapara Stadium back to their team hotel in the eastern city when the rock pierced the window on the right-hand side of the bus, Cricket Australia (CA) said on its website.

"In a remarkable piece of good fortune, no one was sitting on the seat next to the window when it was broken," CA's report said.

They claimed that the rock was roughly the size of a cricket ball.

"While no one was injured, the Australian players were understandably shaken up by the incident."

Australian opener Aaron Finch tweeted a picture of a broken glass window of the bus. “Pretty scary having a rock thrown through the team bus window on the way back to the hotel!!” he wrote on Twitter. The post was also retweeted by stand-in captain David Warner.
