On the second day of the Hangzhou Asian Para Games, India continued its impressive medal streak, with canoer Prachi Yadav and quartermiler Deepthi Jeevanji each securing gold.
Prachi Yadav, who had previously won a silver in the canoe VL2 category, added to her medal collection by claiming a gold in the KL2 event, demonstrating her prowess on the water.
Meanwhile, Deepthi Jeevanji attained a remarkable victory in the women's T20 category 400m race. She not only clinched the gold but also set a new Games and Asian record with an astonishing timing of 56.69 seconds.
The silver medals were earned by Ajay Kumar in the men's T64 400m and Simran Sharma in the women's T12 100m. Adding to the overall success, Manish Kaurav secured a bronze in the men's KL3 canoe event, Gajendra Singh in the men's VL2 canoe, and Ekta Bhayan in the women's F32/51 club throw, contributing to India's growing medal tally.
India's contingent got off to a remarkable start on the first day of competitions, clinching a total of 17 medals, six of which were gold. Leading the charge was star shooter Avani Lekhara, who secured the gold in the women's R2 10m air rifle standing SH1 event.
The other outstanding gold medalists on this triumphant day were Pranav Soorma in the men's F51 club throw, Shailesh Kumar in the men's T63 high jump, Nishad Kumar in the men's T47 high jump, Ankur Dhama in the men's T11 5000m, and Praveen Kumar in the men's T64 high jump. This extraordinary performance set a strong foundation for India at the competition.
