South Africa's ODI and Test skipper AB de Villiers will launch AB: The Autobiography on Thursday. The much-awaited book runs us through his childhood, his thoughts about the different formats of the game and the greatest moments of his career so far.
De Villiers begins his book describing the historic moment when he broke the record for the fastest hundred in an ODI, against West Indies in January 2015.
" De Villiers is like a Famous Fiver who never ages - on a life of endless holiday and adventure." ESPN Cricinfo's South Africa Correspondent Firdose Moonda wrote in her book review.
The South African skipper has avoided controversial statements but did not shy away from expressing his emotions through words.
For example. the semi-final defeat to New Zealand at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 saw the 'tough men of cricket' - De Villiers, Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel and others - break down into tears. AB has termed that defeat as the "greatest disappointment" of his career.
"It will never be much fun until a Proteas team finally goes out and wins one of these ICC limited-overs tournaments. That will happen one day," he wrote in his newly published book.
One of the most popular figures in the Indian Premier League (IPL), it was not surprising that he predicted that IPL will grow tremendously in the near future.
"The Indian Premier League will surely continue to grow and develop, leading the evolution of the game in many respects and I hope to participate for a few more years," he wrote.
However, the Proteas' leader has not lost hope about Test cricket's future.
"In my view, Test cricket will continue to be played for many decades to come, played in daylight hours, played with a red ball and played in white clothing. It will continue because it remains the preferred format of a strong group of spectators, whose numbers are not declining and whose passion is not diminishing. I count myself as a member of this audience and I will be watching Test cricket for many years after I stop playing," he added.
