Actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan’s journey into the realm of Indian politics has been a fascinating one. His stature and his campaigns are already giving tough time to the Telegu Desam Party and BJP-led Andhra Pradesh government. Kalyan has been raising the issue of Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh and he wanted to stage a protest against the government but the police poured water on the idea.
The protestors said that they would call for a ‘silent breach protest’ on Thursday. They planned to hold the protest at the Ramakrishna Beach in Visakhapatnam. But the police imposed Section 144 of CrPC in the city and that meant five or more people could not assemble in one area.
“People have all the right to protest and they were not allowed. Special status promise was given to the people while dividing the state and that too, in Parliament. But repeatedly, central government has changed their stand. They kept diluting their promise and decided on special package. After complete analysis, we found it’s an eyewash and to deceive people,” Kalyan told News 18.
“Clearly the government has gone back on its promise, which has left people very hurt. The state was divided without taking proper measures. The entire division was very painful for people and that’s why they want their right of Special Status for state.”
Kalyan used to occasionally tweet about issues regarding politics prior to his first public appearance as a politician in Tirupati a few months ago. But after Tirupati, he let the people know about his intention of contesting 2019 elections. The Telegu superstar’s public appearances have been much more strident and that is giving sleepless nights to the Andhra Pradesh government.
There was a time when the actor had actually supported BJP and TDP in 2014. He thought that Narendra Modi and Chandrababu Naidu would help rebuild the state. But Kalyan realised eventually that he should not have supported them. Therefore, he decided to join hands with Jana Sena and is aiming big in 2019.
Kalyan does not want to be like a guest actor in politics and he is making it clear with his appearances in public. His fellow party workers feel that Kalyan can be in forefront of all the issues and especially the Special Category Status.
