Congress-led opposition UDF in Kerala yesterday alleged that the LDF government, headed by CPM, had committed many lapses in its two-month-long governance, and the new tax proposals had burdened the people.
Speaking to reporters after a UDF leaders meeting here, Front Convener P P Thankachan said the Front as part of its agitation against the government's 'lapses', would hold a dharna in front of the Secretariat on August 4.
All UDF MLAs would participate in the dharna, and a meeting of Front leaders scheduled that day would chalk out further agitations programmes.
"We are not demanding the resignation of the government. But they should rectify the mistakes," Thankachan said.
He said the new tax proposals in the budget for the year 2016-17 have pushed up the prices of many commodities.
He alleged that the law and order situation in Kerala has deteriorated, with an increase in political violence and added that both CPM and BJP leaders in the state were encouraging violence with their statements.
The remark of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on the Mullaperiyar issue had caused confusion and apprehension in the minds of the people, he added.
