Three children drown at Kannur in Kerala

Synopsis

In a shocking tragedy, three children drowned in Chengalayi River at Kannur in Kerala. 

 

The deceased are identified as Athul Krishna, 15, his brother Amal Krishna,13 and Asif, son of Haneefa, a resident of Kottappuram. One boy, who was swimming with his friends in the river, had a miraculous escape. Athul and Amal are sons of Murali, a native of Kottappuram in Kannur. 

 

The tragedy occurred when the children were bathing in the river around 3 pm on Monday. The water level suddenly rose and swept the children away. One of them escaped the strong currents and informed the locals about the mishap. Local people and Fire and Rescue personnel rushed to the save them but two children had already died when the rescue team lifted them from the swollen river. One boy was still alive, but breathed his last at Pariyaram Medical College.
