
A fashion reporter, who was under the influence of alcohol, lost control of her car and rammed into a gate killing a senior citizen in Bengaluru on Wednesday night.
Bhavatarini, who was driving a Verna a mid-sized sedan, had consumed alcohol in excess of the permissible limit. On her way back home, Bhavatarini smashed into a residential gate near Lalbagh west gate injuring house owner Honnappa and killing a senior citizen who was standing near the gate.
A two-wheeler that was parked near the gate was smashed along with Bhavatarini's car. Eyewitnesses alleged that Bhavatarini was intoxicated.
As soon as the accident took place, a local mob assaulted the journalist. The Kalasipalya police arrived at the spot in the nick of time and took the reporter into custody.
Bhavatarini, who had a party with friends the previous night, was driving back home when the incident took place.
Bhavatarini is the daughter of Leelavathi and Nagaraj, residents of Rajajinagar completed her studies abroad before returning to Bengaluru. She is currently working as a fashion reporter for a news magazine.
Citizens claim that the curve road near Lalbagh West gate has always been a dangerous accident spot in the city. The local governance, however, has failed to take any precautionary measures, such as constructing speed breakers, so far.
The police have filed a case against the scribe and are investigating into the matter.
