Now, a flashmob to support breastfeeding mothers

Synopsis

World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated every year from 1 to 7 August all over the globe to encourage breastfeeding. Nearly 20 per cent of newborn and 13 per cent of children under the age of five years die in India due to poor breastfeeding practices, says a report.

The internet is flooded with all kinds of flashmob videos that come with various themes. But on Sunday, a mall in Kochi witnessed a dance performance by a group of moms with their infants in Kangaroo bags, with surprise and fun.

The flashmob was organised as part of the World Breastfeeding Week by  'Breastfeeding Support for Indian Mothers,' a voluntary group to spread awareness among mothers.

The organisers said that public places like shopping complexes and malls still have no facility for breastfeeding. Hence, mothers often shy away from the practice or depend on other milk substitutes.
