MP Rajeev Chandrashekhar met homeowners affected by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) demolition drive, following a request from citizens who sought his help in seeking legal solutions to their grievances.

The affected said they had approached Chandrashekhar for help since they are hoping to sue the government for compensation.

The MP said a larger meeting would be held with victims on August 27, where a discussion will be held. Post-that, a decision will be taken on a course of action to provide victims with justice, he added.

After a four-day leave, the BBMP has restarted its demolition activity with new vigour.

Some 1000 buildings, as per the map of stormwater drains, is on the latest list. The buildings of several real estate businesses, political leaders and influential people are included in the list.

The BBMP will give two days' notice to the building owners. There are around 1923 encroachments on the stormwater drains, stretching on for about 854km in Bengaluru. Around 922 encroachments have already been cleared.

Yesterday, the BBMP uploaded its map of stormwater drains, which contains the zones and wards of encroached areas. The map is divided into Bengaluru East, Bengaluru North, Bengaluru annexe, etc.

But confusion reigned as the uploaded map had old survey numbers and citizens could not find their exact plot numbers and survey numbers on encroached lands.
