Medical Shops to shut shutters on November 23

Synopsis

Bandh conducted against Centre's move to amend Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 and 1945 Amendment will lead to increase in volume of duplicate medicines and fake brands in the market, say experts

JS Shinde, president of the organisation, said that the online trading of medicines was illegal as per the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 and 1945 and that it was not fair on the part of central government to initiate an amendment to this Act.

The proposed move of the government will have an adverse affect on the pharmacy segment, and the volume of duplicate medicines and fake brands will increase in the market, he lamented.

The bandh has been planned for November 23, and most chemists are expected to participate in the strike.
