Man smuggles in 6.4 kg gold in computer UPS

Synopsis

A passenger from Bahrain to Kozhikode was detained at Karipur International Airport in  Kerala on Wednesday for trying to smuggle in gold worth ₹ 2 crores hidden inside a computer UPS.

The attempt was foiled when the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials intercepted Kozhikode native Taslim who arrived from Bahrain in Air India Express flight. He had 6.4 kg gold hidden inside a computer UPS.

The massive seizure shows that the gold smuggling through the Karipur Airport has not dwindled as indicated by some earlier reports. Once infamous as a gold smuggling hub, the gold seizure in the airport showed a downturn from 102 kg in 2014-15 to 85 kg in 2015-16.
